Breaking news from the bottom of the planet.

Archaeologists have finally located explorer Ernest Shackleton's ship, the Endurance, 106 years after it sank under the frozen Weddell Sea during one of the early expeditions

to Antarctica.

Okay, quick recap.

In 1915, Shackleton and his crew of 27 set off on a voyage to explore Antarctica.

This was a time when people were racing to the most remote spots on the planet.

But before the Endurance even makes it to Antarctica, the ship got trapped in ice and crushed, and the crew was stranded on drifting ice floes.

So technically, the expedition was a giant failure.

Yet people still talk about it today because against all odds, Shackleton and a few of his men were able to navigate a lifeboat hundreds of

miles.

They even made it through a hurricane to find a rescue ship, and all the crew made it home safely.

It became a famous story of not letting a major setback crush your spirit and persevering in the face of disaster.

One final mystery remained.

Where did the Endurance end up?

For more than a century, it remained one of the most famous lost shipwrecks.

Until this week, archaeologists located the Endurance almost two miles underwater.

And because of the frigid temperatures, it's actually pretty well preserved.

It's kind of a monument to what else?

Endurance.
